Performance Testing.

Regardless of whether you're wanting to finish your first triathlon or wanting to win a world championship, the range of performance testing services RPG offers will give you the information you need to ensure you're heading in the right direction with your training and racing.

Lactate Testing

LACTATE TESTING.

Lactate testing, also known as lactate threshold testing or blood lactate testing, is a method used to assess the level of lactate in the blood during exercise. Lactate concentration in the blood provides highly valuable information about an athlete's exercise intensity to determine the athlete’s training zones. Without Vo2 max or Lactate testing there is no way of accurately knowing an athlete's training zones with certainty and accuracy. The benefits of having your training zones specially dialled:

  • Ensure your training at the right intensity to achieve the purpose of each prescribed training session.

  • Pre race testing can be extremely useful to establish an accurate pacing plan based on your current race ready fitness.

  • Optimising your training: Testing enables your coach or you as an athlete to choose a plan that addresses the most necessary elements of training to improve your performance.

  • Overtraining prevention: One of the biggest problems for endurance athletes is doing their zone 2 and below/easy to moderate training too hard. By knowing where the bulk of training load intensity should be can actually prolong steady improvement and prevent burnout or injury.

Lactate Testing Process Overview.

Incremental Exercise Protocol:

  • The individual engages in incremental exercise, typically on a treadmill or a stationary bike.

  • The exercise intensity is gradually increased in stages, with each stage lasting a specific period.

Blood Sampling:

  • Blood samples are taken at regular intervals, usually at the end of each stage or during specific time points during the exercise.

  • The blood is often collected from a fingertip or earlobe, and the lactate concentration is measured using a portable lactate analyzer.

Bike Fitting and Aero Testing

bike fitting and aero TESTING.

Learning from one of the leading aerodynamic experts from the U.S, Jim Manton from Ero high Performance, RPG coaches Tim Reed and Clint Rowlings wanted to learn from the best and bring quality aero testing to Australia.

Using the absolute cutting edge of technology the ‘Aerolab’ sensor allows us to do wind tunnel like measurements in the real world. To date this is the only sensor in the world to make such a claim. Wind tunnel calibrated with proven accuracy in the real world conditions allowing us to help make you a much faster rider for the same power output.

The aero senso measures you’re CdA (Coefficient of Drag), including yaw angle while you ride outdoors with accurate and repeatable results.

Sweat Testing & Race Nutrition

Sweat Testing and Race Nutrition Consultation.

It’s imperative that you know the sodium concentration of your sweat to ensure your hydration and fueling plan is as specific to your needs as possible. Rather incredibly, the amount of sweat /sodium lost can vary up to 15 times between seemingly similar individuals.

Everyone loses a different amount of sodium in their sweat, from as little as 200mg per litre of sweat, to as much as 2,000mg/l - this is largely genetically determined. This means that a 'one-size-fits-all', off the shelf approach doesn't work when it comes to hydration. Also, what even most who sweat test won't explain or understand is that the higher level of sodium you need to take in, the less carbohydrate you can also take in so your hydration needs do have a direct effect on your fuelling plan also.

RPG have purchased patented testing equipment that is used as a diagnostic tool for Cystic Fibrosis. Using this technology we can get an accurate reading of the amount of sodium (the key electrolyte lost in sweat) you lose every time you exercise. This is largely genetically determined and it's relatively stable after infancy, and so in most cases you'll only need one test in your life in order to understand an important part of the hydration equation.

We combine the reading with the context you give us during the test to create a hydration strategy just for you. We'll advise you on when, what and how much to drink before, during and after training and competitions, so that you're well equipped to achieve your goals.
